Staff Attorney Position
Augusta Office

LSE is a statewide non-profit organization that provides free legal services to Maine’s seniors.  LSE has a fulltime Staff Attorney position open in the Augusta office.  The attorney will handle a wide variety of civil litigation matters and conduct outreach in Kennebec, Lincoln, Knox and Waldo counties.  Staff Attorneys working out of the Augusta office also occasionally provide some brief services via telephone as a part of LSE’s statewide Helpline services.   

The successful candidate will have 0-5 years of related experience; a willingness to engage in extensive local travel; an interest in and/or experience doing civil litigation; and a commitment to working with and helping the elderly.  The attorney will work as part of a team of attorneys and receive ongoing professional training and support.  While strong preference will be given to applicants who are already licensed to practice in Maine, applications will be accepted from attorneys who plan to sit for the bar examination in February.

Office Manager (fulltime position)
Augusta office

LSE is a statewide non-profit organization that provides free legal services to Maine’s seniors.  The Office Manager duties are varied and include: answering phones and greeting visitors; creating and revising documents and statistical reports; supply ordering; meeting and event planning and set up; office equipment and facility maintenance; assisting the Finance Manager with financial tracking and reporting; supporting staff at LSE’s other offices; preparing a wide variety of mass mailings; and filing and file archiving.  The successful applicant must be proficient in WORD and capable of learning to use PowerPoint, EXCEL and Quickbooks, with support.  This job requires exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills and good attention to detail.

Medicare Part D Appeals Specialist (paralegal position)
Augusta Office

LSE is a non-profit organization that provides free services to Maine’s seniors. LSE has a fulltime Appeals Specialist position open. Hours are M-F, 8:30 to 5:00.

The Appeals Specialist helps elderly and disabled callers who are on limited incomes obtain access to prescription drugs under Medicare Part D. Services are provided entirely via telephone. This position requires excellent oral communication and problem solving skills and an ability to understand and explain health benefit information. Extensive training will be provided regarding Medicare Part D and this person will work as a part of a team of four paralegals under the supervision of an attorney. The successful candidate must have a proven ability to provide exceptional client/customer service as well as strong computer and advocacy skills. Some post-secondary training and experience providing services via telephone is preferred.
