Legal Services for Maine Elders helps older people facing eviction, domestic violence, elder abuse and exploitation, barriers to public benefits and health care, and consumer debt. These problems keep older Mainers from meeting essential human needs when other resources fall short.
Providing ready access to civil legal aid ensures that Mainers with low incomes have access to direct representation and legal advice, and that all Mainers, regardless of income, have access to accurate, current, and valuable information about their civil legal rights and remedies.
In 2023, LSE helped 4,255 people, but hundreds more could have used our help.
When LSE can help it changes lives. When LSE can provide free legal help, it improves the lives of 86% of the people served. Every single day, LSE is helping older people avoid homelessness and restore their physical and financial security.
The goal of civil legal aid is to provide legal help to everyone who needs it but is unable to afford it. But LSE is falling short. Your support can and will make a real difference in the lives of older Mainers. Please help LSE make Maine a better place to grow old.
